Student Testimonials
I wanted a career focused on serving others and I found it in fire services. I’m proud to have completed my AS in Fire Technology from Rio Hondo and look forward to completing my BS in Wildland Urban Interface at CSU San Marcos. The program wasn’t easy and I had to attempt it twice, but my classmates and instructors encouraged and inspired me to persevere and see it through! It made it that much sweeter when I walked across the graduation platform as part of Class 96. I hope to continue my career and become part of an Urban Search and Rescue crew in the future, but it wouldn’t be possible without the Rio Hondo Fire Academy.

When I first began my journey at Rio Hondo College, I thought it was impossible for me to persist in college. Often times, I faced challenges such as family, work, school and language barriers. However, I stepped outside of my comfort zone and became a proactive person. I asked a lot of questions and sought help and support from the faculty members, professors, counselors and the programs I joined here at Rio Hondo College. And now, I will graduate Rio Hondo College and transfer to a four-year university where I will be able to complete the next phase of my educational journey–earning my bachelor’s degree! I am very proud of myself and grateful for all the help that I have received from the Rio Hondo College community.

I am employed as an automotive technician for a local city and I love my job! Pursuing the associate degree in automotive and now the bachelor’s degree has allowed me to grow professionally and become a more competent technician. I am thankful to be able to pursue my lifelong dream of a higher education. I am now looking forward to pursuing an applied master’s degree for personal and professional growth.
